10 Ways to Recycle and Reuse Mismatched Socks

10 Ways to Recycle and Reuse Mismatched SocksToday I noticed a pile of mismatched socks sitting on top of the dryer. In fact, I can assure you that most of the have been sitting there for several weeks waiting for their long lost match to appear. Typically, after a few months I finally will decide to get rid of the sock pile that is sitting on top of my dryer. I figure if they have been sitting there for a sevearl weeks more than likely the match has disappeared or it the dryer ate it. Instead of tossing those old socks into the trash can, why not recycle and reuse them. I wanted to share with you 10 ways to recycle and use your pile of mismatched socks.

Sock Bun

Do you enjoy wearing your hair in a bun? A sock bun is an easy way to put your hair into a bun and you won’t have to worry about it falling down or coming loose throughout the day. Simply choose an old sock from your sock pile. Try to find one that is ankle high and try to find one that closely matches the color of your hair. If possible, find a sock that won’t fray or unravel when you cut it. Cut off the toe end of your sock so that you are left with a tube. Pull your hair into a pony tail and roll the sock into a donut. Pull your pony tail into the middle of the sock and pull it as close as you can to the end of your pony tail. Then tuck your hair around the sides and push it through the center of the bun. Next roll the sock towards the base of your ponytail while holding the ends of your hair. Your hair will gather around the sock as you roll it towards the base of your ponytail. As you are rolling the sock, gently turn the sock so that you make sure that your hair is covering the enter sock so that it can’t be seen. Finish off the bun with hairspray. Use bobby pins if the bun feels loose or if you have any stray hairs to pin down.

Use Old Socks to Protect Your Christmas Ornaments

I realize that it is early spring and most of you have already packed up your Christmas stuff and put it away for the year. However, you can save all of those old mismatched socks for next year. Place your glass ornaments inside of a sock and store the as usual.

Great uses! Tw o more: 1) Put a tennis ball in an old tube sock. Tie it off with the ball in the tow of the sock. Hold the open end of the sock and swing it & throw for your own “foxtail” toy. 2) Cut open a sock lengthwise & use instead of the disposable swiffer cloth. It washes up to use over and over again!

I cut old socks into 3 or 4 sections to use as kitchen rags. They work well & don’t take up much room in the laundry.

Thanks for the tips! We think very much alike!

Using them for glass ornaments is a great idea! And (dont tell anyone, its a BIG secret!!) I still have some Christmas ornaments and garlands still hanging in different sections of the house, so I can start using the idea now! (Spring cleaning isnt when everyone takes down Christmas Decorations? ๐Ÿ™‚ )
