3 Ways Larger Families Can Start Saving Money TodayWhether you have several children or you find that you are taking care of your elderly parents, increasing the size of your household, there are some money saving tips to keep in mind for larger families. They are easy to follow, and there is a possibility that you can save a large amount of money over the course of a year.

Turn Saving Money Into a Game

If you have children, then make saving money a game. Don’t strive for big goals that the family probably won’t achieve. Instead, set small goals, such as decreasing the water bill by $5 or saving 10% on the electric bill. It will make saving money a challenge for everyone in the home. Divide the house into two teams, and the team that saves the most on the bills wins a prize.

Most of the time we lose track of our finances, it’s important to keep track of where we are spending, check out truebill review to see how this app can help you have an organized look into your finances.

Learn How to Save Money on Groceries

Your food bill will probably be one of the biggest expenses that you have, especially if you have teenagers or men in the home. Try to shop at stores that have bulk items, and invest in a freezer. Stock up on food when it’s on sale, and use coupons whenever possible. You can also try growing your own vegetables and freezing them for the winter. Store brands are less expensive, and you might find that they taste just like the name brands that are more expensive. Buy used items as much as possible when it comes to clothing, toys and shoes. You can often find very good clothing at yard sales and second hand stores at a fraction of the cost of new items.

Check for Discounts on Car Insurance, Cable, Electricity, Ect

If there are multiple drivers in the home, then compare auto insurance quotes in Garland and other cities so that you get the best deal possible. Some companies will offer discounts for experienced drivers and to families that have multiple drivers in the house. Speak with your utility companies to find out if there are any discounts offered if you pay in advance or if there is a pay as you go option that lets you pre-pay for service. This kind of service can help you monitor the water and electricity that you use in the home.

Cancel Any Unused Memberships

This time of year many people join the gym or other subscriptions in order to try and lose weight. However, in a few weeks these memberships often sit dormant and are no longer used. If you aren’t using the members ships, you are essentially throwing away several hundred dollars a year. Don’t forget about club memberships, other recurring subscriptions that are automatically being deducted from your bank account.

I know that most people are having to stretch their dollars to make their money go further and further as the cost of everything keeps going up. I hope these tips can help motivate you and your family to find additional ways to save money.

Oh yeah, the food one is such an issue sometimes! Coupons, sales and learning to make the kids love the leftovers! One of my favorite things to do is unplug around the house a few times a month. The silence freaks the kids out for the first few minutes, but then all is well and the electric bill looks much better 🙂

Smart to cancel those unused memberships. I am not so bad at saving money, but I’d like to get better again at generating it. 😉

I never use coupons, but probably should LOL. I have 3 kids and they eat A LOT.

It’s really important to update things like car insurance. I had not updated mine and was overpaying because my mileage had dropped dramatically and I no longer needed the coverage I once did. Updated recently and the rate dropped.

We shop a lot at Aldi’s so that saves us a lot of money on groceries without having to hassle with coupons.
