As a mompreneur, I am constantly struggling to find the right balance juggling all the duties that it takes to run a blog. I love it because it is something that I enjoy doing and it something that I can do while laying on the couch (due to my back problems). Today, I wanted to share with you some tips that Diana Smith wrote on making the switch from working to juggling a home a priority before bed time.
Being a parent is most certainly one of the most rewarding things in the world. Still, when you are confronted with a set of different demands at work coming home to another set of tasks may be a bit overwhelming and stressful. As a parent you have learned to shift from ‘head’ to ‘heart’ mode and this is precisely what makes you a great parent – knowing how to balance work and home. Go through some ground rules and parenting techniques you’ll be relying on. This will make your life so much easier. Balancing work and time at home To create a connection with your child, your child needs to feel loved. The love you share will be felt through devotion and time spent together. It’s not just about being physically present. If you aren’t mentally there, it’s like you are still at the office. Naturally, with long working hours and projects that you bring home in order to have them done by morning will get in the way from time to time, but also, make it your priority to devote time to your child too.
Pay Attention To Your Child’s Needs
Once you get home don’t even plan on having some alone time to help you switch from work mode to home mode. Try doing that on your way home because your child is so happy that you are home and wants to have your full attention the moment you step on your doorstep. If you are “work from home” parent take few moments and just sit in your home office. That way you can spend some time alone with your thoughts (not thinking about the work). So, pay close attention to what your child tells you:
- Mark said his backpack is bigger and better than mine.
- What’s for dinner? I’m starving.
- They picked me for a main role in school play.
- You have to come to PT meeting on Friday.
- Can you help me with my homework?
- Can you please take me and my friends to the mall or other places?
- And the list goes on and on.
If you are tired, you’ll be tempted to think of your children as another job or thing you need to do. Yet, they are not. Instead, your children are a blessing that you get to come home to each and everyday. Think of it that way, and let love guide you.
