I remember those final few weeks of my pregnancy, I remember nesting with my older two kids and I never did with my third baby because I was in so much pain. I struggled with SPD which makes any movement very painful. As you are preparing for the arrival of your baby, Diana Smith, shared some fabulous tips to make sure that you are prepared for your baby. Enjoy the final weeks of your pregnancy, once your baby is here you will miss all of those tiny flutters, kicks, jabs, and hiccups that your baby did in the womb.
For all of us expecting mommies, life isn’t all rainbows and butterflies (the cramps, swollen feet and all, you know what I’m talking about). I’ve been counting weeks until I go into labor and I’ve only now realized what all I haven’t done for the baby’s arrival!
My husband prepared the new baby room and it really looks wonderful, but we haven’t really done all the necessities such as stocking up supplies, cleaning everything thoroughly, etc. Not to get confused, I’ve made a list and basically this is what I’ve come up with.
Wash Your Baby’s Clothes and Accessories
All clothes need to be washed and folded. In case this baby is your second and third, you can re-use the old clothes your children wore. Don’t forget about baby bibs, blankets, covers for changing tables. Babies generally have sensitive skin so when you wash their clothes you can use a clear and free detergent or Dreft that is made for babies.
If you get a ton of newborn clothes, only wash a few outfits in case your baby is too big when your baby is born. Plus, your baby will grow rapidly those first several weeks so even if they can wear newborn clothing.
Sterilize
Once your newborn is here, he/she will need clean and fresh air to breathe in. Baby’s lungs are small and are yet to develop so clean space and fresh air are a must. Unless all baby equipment is new you need to have everything cleaned, washed and sterilized. All bottles and nipples must be sanitized. If you have pets, make sure they don’t enter the baby room because pets have different bacteria than humans and babies are really sensitive.
Clean
If you have already prepared the baby room, and the rug you’ve put in is an old one, don’t get stressed. You can buy a new rug or just wash the old one and wash it thoroughly. I suggest you send it to professionals for washing, as they have a system of how to remove all the old stains, hairs (that are easy to inhale), germs, and so on.
If you are paining the room, don’t wait to paint it days before your baby is schedule to arrive. Paint it at least a month before baby’s arrival to avoid baby’s inhaling of toxic fumes. This gives the room plenty of time to air out. Don’t forget to use an air purifiers in your baby’s room too.
