A Dad’s Guide to Recognizing Early Labor

Dad Driving Wife in Labor to the HospitalDad are you prepared for the birth of your new baby?  If not, now is a great time to begin preparing for delivery day.  It is important to be  prepared so that you know exactly what to do when your wife or significant appears to be in labor.  The best way to learn about labor is to attend a child birthing class with your wife or significant other; however, child birth classes are not the only way for you to prepare for labor and delivery.  As your child’s due date approaches, the chances of labor onset increases and can catch you by surprise if you are not prepared.  Many couples try self induction methods in attempt to jump start labor.  However, your baby will come when he or she is ready and there isn’t much you can do to force labor unless her body is ready.

Great tips. It’s such a stressful time it’s great to have a refresher for those getting ready for this exciting time!

I agree DelSheree, thank you for sharing.

Dads need to be there every step of the way. It helps a lot that they know what’s happening. And they get to somewhat share the stress with their partner 🙂

I feel that the more dad’s feel involved the smoother things will go during labor.

    First, I love your disclosure!
This is such a great post! I really love your “dad involvement” on your pregnancy series! For me though, I think I might get mad if I’m in pain and he’s trying to time my contractions! lol! That’s just me!

When I was pregnant I ended up timing my contractions the few times that I was having major BH contractions and he told me to wake him up if I felt that I needed to go to the hospital. I would go with what works for you and your family when it comes to timing contractions.

Thank you, I am glad that you think the list would be helpful for dads.

Avoid Going to the Hospital to Soon – I did this, haha. I was actually dilated by 7cm when I asked my husband to drive to the hospital. The ER doctor asked me why I went to the hospital just now and I told her I was busy doing the laundry and ironing my baby’s clothes. Haha.

I always went to the hospital too soon during each of my pregnancies and was sent home. I was terrified that I would have my baby at home so I always went if I was having regular contractions.

I would rather be at the hospital too soon, than have my baby somewhere else.
