It is important for new mom’s to find a pediatrician or doctor to provide health care services to your new baby. A newborn baby will need to be seen by a doctor several times during the first few months of life, mostly for weight checks and well baby appointments. If you plan on breastfeeding your baby, its best to find a doctor who is supportive of your breastfeeding goals, whether those goals are 6 months or extended breastfeeding.

There are several factors that you need to research before you decide on a pediatrician, such as location of doctor’s office, do they take your insurance, are they allowed to treat patients in your hospital of choice, and are they reputable. Ask your friends and co-workers for suggestions and opinions on doctors so that you can make an informed decision. Also, if you are unfamiliar with a doctor, try to schedule a meeting so that you can meet them face to face and ask them questions.
