Why Is It Important For Married Couples to Plan Dates Nights Together?

Married Couple on DateI am looking forward to my date on Friday and Saturday with my husband.  We are planning on going away overnight so that we can spend some quality time with each other without any distractions.  We feel that is it very important to invest time into our marriage and take the time to remember why we fell in love to begin with.  It has been a while since we have been on an overnight date and it is long overdue.  I married my sweetheart, June 28th, 2008 and we have been married four and a half years.  I can’t believe that in a few months we will be celebrating our five year wedding anniversary.  Time has flown by and it has been fun so far.  I can’t wait to see what the next five years has in store for us.

Why Should Married Couples Go on Dates?

When you get married and move in together you have this notion in your head that you will have plenty of time to talk and spend time together with your spouse.  However, once children come along that time will slowly dwindle down, making it harder to have quality time and conversations together with your spouse.  The kids usually end up taking priority, especially, during the very early years of your child’s life.  During those early years, you child is dependent on you and your spouse for everything.  If you neglect your spouse, you will begin to see your relationship slipping away and you will begin to feel as if you are growing apart.  More than likely you will end up spending more time fighting and arguing; instead, of working as a team to raise your children.

I agree that date night is important to rekindle the spark in the marriage. I too try to arrange for date nights or lunches if there is the chance 🙂

This post made me miss my husband even more! If he were here (he’s working overseas), we’d prolly go on dates often. 🙂

Date night is so important and so needed to keep things fresh. Kids are a blessing in every way; however, they need their parents’ attention, energy and time in every way. I can relate to Rebel Sweetheart being a military spouse; there are a lot of trips and time apart as well as moving around leaving the family with no support system – limited in date night, as we are not into the whole babysitter thing.

Yes, I totally can related to being a military wife and not having family around. It is a tough situation but you can make it work so that you two can get some time away. Try kid swapping with a close friend.

My wife and I are very intentional about planning date nights. At my last job, I had alternating Fridays off, so that was our bi-weekly date day. Now that I’m in my new job, time is more precious, so we’re doubly intentional about having time for “us”. Sometimes it’s as simple as a walk around the neighborhood, other times it’s lunch on a Saturday or a Friday night out.

Connecting with your spouse this way is one way to build a healthy marriage.

I strongly believe in ‘couples date nite’ if you don’t keep it interesting, someone else will!!

Sadly this is true in today’s society Maria. 🙁

I keep on telling my husband this but we fail to set date nights (weekly or monthly) because we’re either so tired from work and caring for our son or we have no budget! Alternatively though, we just watch movies at home or spontaneously have a dinner date (as a family more often than not) when we can.

Totally agree with you. The relationship can be lost in the everyday busyness of life – most important to keep it well and alive. Great post!

      Yes I agree Norma.

I love to spend time with my husband, too. It is fun to go to dinner with him. Last time we went to this place where you can throw your peanut shells on the floor and I embarrassed him by having fun with that! hahahaa

Fun Laurie! I love going to eat with my husband and finding fun things to do.

Date nights do so much for a relationship. It’s also important because it helps remind you, his wife, that you are appreciated and loved, which is something we women need every once in a while. And our husbands as well.

    1. Christy Avatar

Yes, you have to nurture the relationship. I love date nights because it is a reminder on why we fell in love in the first place.

This reminds me that my hubby and I seriously need a date night! We have two young kids and are selling our house so there’s a lot on our plate–we look forward to it all settling down, pawning the kids off to my in-laws and getting away for a few days!

I hope that you were able to get away for a date night. 🙂
