Avoid Excessive Air Pollutants
There are a lot of air pollutants that may not be harmful or even noticeable to us but they could be harmful to your baby. Try to avoid all chemicals and cleaners as much as you can. Buy or make homemade, natural options for cleaning instead. Keep the nursery sealed as much as you can while its being painted so that you don’t get as much of the fumes in the rest of the house.
Also, try to avoid paint thinners, pesticides, lead, mercury, arsenic, and other toxic fumes that could cause a problem for your baby. As always, avoid smoking and even second-hand smoke as much as possible, for you and your baby’s health.
If you have to use harmful chemicals, make sure that you use them in a well ventilated room and take frequent breaks.
Ensure That You Will Keep Your Balance
Your center of gravity is extremely altered when you are pregnant, and the farther your pregnancy progresses, the worse your balance will become. Try to fall-proof your home when you are pregnant to avoid any accidents. Clear anything around your feet that might cause you to trip and fall, like loose rugs or shoes. Use the wall or railing as much as you can to maintain stability.
You can also use these methods when you leave your home. When using stairs, using the railings as much as you can to stabilize yourself. Look out for potential hazards that could disrupt your balance and sit down as much as possible.
Use Extra Precaution When Driving
If you are in an accident, the air bag is made to protect you and your upper body. The impact of the collision and the air bag can harm your baby, even though it is keeping you safe. Of course this is not an everyday scenario that you will run into, but it is something good to keep in mind. Give yourself extra space between cars in traffic, practice defensive driving, and always wear your seat belt to ensure that you will make it from point A to point B safely.
