How to Use the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump

The Ameda Purely Yours breast pump comes with several different sizes of breast shields.  Find the breast shield that fits properly.  To determine if you are using the correct size flange, place the flange to your breast.  It should cover most of your areola and the nipple should be in the middle.  If your nipple touches the sides, then you will need to use a larger sized flange.  A flange that is too large, try a smaller sized flange.

To get started, assemble the breast pump parts.  Attach the tubing to the base of the pump motor, the tubing goes on the right side of the pump.  Then place the breast flanges on your breast and create an air tight seal.  This is important, if you don’t have an air tight seal, the breast pump will not operate correctly.

Attached the A/C adapter, battery pack, or [amazon_link id=”B00CEQOD7O” target=”_blank”  rel=”nofollow”]car adapter[/amazon_link].  The power goes on the left side of the breast pump, if you are using the A/C adapter or car charger.

To turn on the breast pump, turn the suction dial to the right until the light turns on.  Adjust the suction levels until the suction feels slightly uncomfortable.  Then reduce the suction slightly so that pumping is comfortable.

Then adjust the speed, when you first start pumping you will want to set the speed to the fastest setting.  This simulates a baby’s rapid sucking motion when they first latch onto the breast.  Once your milk lets down, then you can adjust the speed to a slower pumping rhythm.  The slower rhythm mimics a baby’s slower, deeper sucking motions.  Once, the milk slows back down to a trickle, turn the speed setting back to the fastest setting to trigger another milk let down.  Once the milk lets down again, turn the speed down to a slower setting.  Repeat as necessary.

Turn off the pump by turning the suction dial all the way to the left.
