Our family had to move a few years ago across the country for my husband’s job. I am here to tell you that it was not my favorite thing. The thought of moving period was annoying, but moving across the country made it almost terrifying.
Most of us, for sure, have moved once or twice from one part of town to another. But what if your life changes in a way that you need to move to another area, another country – or even continent? It might make you feel vexed and frightened, especially if it is your first experience to move long-distance.
Here here some tips for Oakland Movers for that long distance move.
- Do your research. Research is king when you are moving to a place you are unsure about. Take some time to find any peculiarities in the area you are moving to. These factors include but are not limited to climate, laws, schools, cost of living, opportunities, and more. Find out anything in your new destination (especially when moving to another country)that is different culturally than what you are accustomed to. This may help prevent any unwanted “surprises” when you move. Check out the roads that you will be traveling and try to envision how the new pieces to your new life will work together.
- Create a plan. Try thinking in advance. To ease the process and avoid being stressed and anxious – you undoubtedly need a nice and elaborate outline. Start in a month before the big day. Try marking it and sorting in four basic groups: things you take with you, new things you will need, stuff to sell or give away, and stuff to trash. Do not be sentimental. Old and useless souvenirs, ugly stretched sweaters, lotions you only used once a few years ago – just trough them away! Reducing the amount of stuff to take with you will simplify your long-distance move. The less you take – the better the process will go. f you have any must have larger items like a sofa, car, etc then send them ahead of time so that they are in place before you get there.
- Consider hiring a moving company. It is strongly recommended to hire a professional company for a long-distance moving. These teams would not only help you with moving, but also will pack and carry your stuff for you. Packing in terms of long-distance moving is extra important: your belongings could be carried far away, so there is a chance of them being damaged or broken if not packed correctly. With a moving company you will have someone that can help you plan out the process in advance
