Wicked Hunger by DelSheree Gladden

Van is very careful who she hangs around at school.  In fact, she only has a few close friends that she hangs out with.  One day Ivy, a new girl, comes over with one of her friends and wants to sit with them at lunch time.  Van has a strange feeling and has to get up and leave the room.  As she is leaving the room she gets a weird taste in her mouth.

Zander picks up Van from school and finally had the opportunity to meet Ivy.  Instantly, Zander picks up a strong vibe and something attracts him to Ivy.  As he gets to know Ivy, he realizes that he loves her.  He typically doesn’t date people because he is afraid of hurting or killing those that he falls in love with.

Van and Zander each have their own way of trying to keep their hunger under control.  Van is a dance instructor and teaches several different dances classes in the afternoons.  Zander plays football for the local high school.  He is a great football player and he is already be scouted out by several colleges even though he isn’t a senior yet.

When Van gets paired with Noah to work on a school project, she finds herself falling in love with him.  However, she knows that she can’t be in a relationship with anyone especially someone who doesn’t know her very well.  She is also worried about hurting Kethcup’s feelings, he has always had a crush on Van and she chose not to date him because of she is afraid of hurting him.  Noah wants to spend more time with her but she is doing her best to keep it a secret from her brother.  Her brother doesn’t know that she is learning how to fight.  This is something that her grandmother didn’t want her or her brother to learn because she feared that it would increase their need to hurt someone.  Zander figures out that she has learned how to fight and is now interested in learning.

Zander is also sneaking around behind Van’s back and is secretly seeing Ivy.  In fact, he sneaks out during the middle of the night to go watch Ivy sleep.  One night while Zander was watching Ivy sleep, she woke up and was frightened.  Things are getting serious and they decide to go on a date.  Van discovered Zander’s secret and has learned that Ivy was bad news.

What happens to Zander and Vanessa?

This is a great book for a teenager or young adult.  It does talk about violence and killing; however, it doesn’t contain any graphic details or blood baths.  If you like the vampire series, this is the book for you.
