Rocking Chair
There’s nothing as enjoyable as holding your baby in your arms while you rock it to sleep. The chair’s soothing motion will give the baby (and you!) a sense of calmness and relaxation and its feeding time will look like visiting wonderland. Find just the piece – something that will be comfortable for both you and the baby, and at the same time something that’ll potentially turn into a memorable and sentimental show-piece in your home for years to come.
Baby Monitor
Sometimes, a baby monitor will save your life. Sure, you’ll want to spend every possible moment with your baby but you’ll also need time for yourself – time to recharge and rest. To actually do this, you’ll have to step away from the crib. Yet, when having a baby monitor close by you are, in a way, close to your baby all the time while at the same time being in the other room – watching TV, relaxing, taking a bubble bath, cooking dinner… whichever! If your baby cries – you’ll hear it and attend to it!
Breast and Bottle Essentials
Be prepared for your baby to be on time for everything, and that includes its meals. If you are going to be a bottle-feeding mom, you should prepare formula and feeding equipment before the baby is in the house. A breast pump and bottles available for a baby sitter or whoever that’s feeding a baby when you happen not to be around. Don’t panic if you are sore, it’s absolutely normal. Just make sure you have a nipple cream around.
Important Phone Numbers
Put together a list of important numbers and make a copy of it too. Keep one of the on the fridge and the other one by the phone. The list should include your doctor, your baby’s pediatrician, the breastfeeding support group contact, police and fire department, your parent’s and, obviously, your favorite takeout restaurant joint.
You know how you always hear new moms telling people that having a child is the most amazing thing in the world? And often you probably thought to yourself – Hmm, yeah, I bet it’s awesome – but you didn’t really feel what you uttered. Do you now feel it? Of course you do! Enjoy it!

new babies are always fun and exciting. one of my favorite parts of getting ready for a new baby is setting up their room.
I loved setting up the nursery and getting all of their baby stuff ready.
Though I really want a new baby in the house (we have kids already!) I can’t imagine myself going through baby proofing again!
Ah its not as bad as it seems, my youngest son is 10 year younger than my older kids. I love the age gap and they get along well.
With my daughter we were so unprepared! She came almost 2 weeks early and I really didn’t expect her to arrive before her “due” date. I’m Due with #2 in December and will definitely be on top of these types of things this time around!
My daughter came a week early and caught me kinda off guard too. Everything worked out though. My oldest son was a week late so I cleaned like a mad woman my last month of pregnancy and then I was bored.
I agree with Pehpot. Baby proofing is hard! 😀
It isn’t too bad. For the most part, I just picked up the small stuff, put the plastic things in the plugs, and locked up my chemicals.
I love babies a lot. Newborns always gives us more fun and exciting moments. All these are great tips for a newborn coming home & I would say Hygiene plays the most important role than anything else. Thanks for the nice article.
I love babies too. I agree hygiene is very important especially for visitors who are coming over to see the baby.
I remember preparing for everything months before. I painted the nursery a couple times and made sure to research and talked to the paint experts to see which paints I could use while pregnant and save for baby. I wanted to make sure it was dry and done long before baby arrived. I cleaned, disinfected everything. A few weeks before I was washing and folding clothes, all kinds of stuff. So much prep but it was always fun for me. The whole nesting thing I think
