I must be obsessed with Bluetooth speakers because we have quite a collection of them. As a part time leader in the band at church they often come in handy to have in my gear bag that I carry around with my guitar so that I can let other musicians and singers in the band listen to something new we are learning. I also often find myself using a portable speaker when outside playing or working and it is perfect to connect to my phone at my day job so that I’m not using the company network to stream my music.

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to receive a new speaker for review purposes. It came from a company I have never heard of named Kinivo and from this alone I honestly did not have high expectations for this speaker but I was in for a surprise. As soon as I received it, I set about getting it charged up and ready to test. The battery had a partial charge when I received it but I went ahead and plugged it in and got it charged up the rest of the way. It charges up fairly quickly using the USB to micro USB cable that it came with.
Easy Set Up
Next I set about the task of figuring out how to pair it with my phone. I do use Bluetooth devices often and found the process for pairing the speaker to my phone very simple. I simply used my phone’s Bluetooth options screen to search for and pair with the speaker. I tried streaming music from several different sources including one of my favorite online radio stations and the sound that came out of this device astonished me. It is different from the other smaller speakers that I have owned because it plays music in stereo.
Excellent Bass Sound for such a Small Speaker
For such a small speaker the bass response is impressive. It has a soft plastic or rubber casing around it that keeps the vibrations from the device from bouncing right off the edge of the table. It is easily comparable some of the higher end Bluetooth speakers on the market that I have tested in stores.

I think my favorite feature would be that it acts as a speaker phone. Maybe it would be a more consistent quality than my phone’s own system? It’s also cool it plays in stereo.
I found the speakerphone audio to be very clear and the caller seemed to be able to hear me well. It was definitely better than my phones built in speaker.
The main point of attraction is the speaker phone “feature,” especially since I can then use a longer range to do my housework and kitchen tasks while still able to handle calls.
