Tips and Tricks to Help You Cope with Your Toddler’s Temper Tantrums

Benefits of Using Visuals for Temper Tantrums

I really wish that I would have tried a visual with my youngest son. I don’t remember having too many issues with him when he was two years old. Don’t get me wrong, he had his share of temper tantrums but I took some of my own advice to help avoid temper tantrums as much as possible. As adults we often use visuals and other clues to help us figure out problems around us everyday, well your toddler is no different. Plus, visuals can help improve your child’s memory and help them learn quickly.

  • A visual object or phase will have a long lasting effect as words will disappear from their memory shortly after you tell them.
  • Use a visual to direct their attention or teach them new concepts, such as how to communicate their feelings.
  • The visual stimulation makes your child process what they are learning because they have to take the time to process what they are seeing and connect it to the words that you are telling them.
  • Always use the same words when using the visual to teach a word or concept.

Bear on the Chair Review

The Bear on the Chair is a great concept and I love that a simple bear can be a solution to a problem that frustrates most parents during the toddler and into the preschool years. The bear is super soft and cuddly. However, his main goal is to sit in the chair in a place where you spend the most time with your child. I put mine on the fireplace mantel. It is high enough so that my son can’t reach it and the bear has a great view of my son’s play area. Simply put the yellow “smiley face” badge on the bears shirt and read the story to your child so that they understand the bears concept. Then when your child has a tantrum, meltdown, or throws a fit then simply change the badge to the red “frowny” face and remove the yellow smiley face from the bears shirt. Your child can see that the bear’s badge has changed. After your child has calmed down, simply show the badge change to your child and discuss their actions. Once you have finished your talk, change the badge back to the smiley face and give your child a clean slate.  The bear is also great for ASD and Autism therapy. The Bear on the Chair can be for years to come and can help your children as they grow up.

Bear on the Chair Review

The idea of the Bear on the Chair was crafted by a 6 year old who wanted to help her parents create a product that will help kids around the world continue to behave after Christmas was long gone. This is amazing and I am happy to share her story with you.

You can purchase your own Bear on the Chair on their website. Also, you can connect with them on Twitter and Facebook.

I´ve never heard of Bear on the Chair before, but I love the idea behind it. My son has his “moments” and it is sometimes pretty hard to stay calm.
