Do crime rates decrease during the summertime? Most people would assume that crime rates would decrease during the summer since families are more active, plan vacations, and aren’t always at home. You might be surprised but crime rates actually tend to increase as the temperature outside goes up. There is some speculation that crime sprees are more likely to occur during the summer time because there are more older children who are out of school and left unattended. Crimes start increasing as the summer drags on and teens or young adults get bored and don’t have anything to do. Often times groups of teens or young adults get caught up in the wrong crowd and take advantage of opportunities that are in front of them. It is also the time of year when families often let their guard down and don’t protect their home the way they should.

Having good and secure lock system is very important, adding a reliable security camera can help keep your home safe and secure. In fact, most insurance companies will even offer you discounts on your homeowners insurance for protecting your home. However, for a security system or cameras to work, you have to actually turn them on and use them.

I always have my alarm set even when I’m home. I also pull into the garage with groceries, close the door, and unload to the house from within. I had a bit of a scare with being home alone, and having to be ready with a gun with a possible intruder a few months back, so I’m extremely cautious about security.
Wow Courtney that is scary. I remember my grandmother being inside of her house with the alarm set while someone was outside her home peeping in on her. She said that she crawled to the back bedroom and called the police.

Living is a small town when crime is almost non existent, we are so bad about locking windows and doors. This is a great reminder of the little things we should be doing!
Small towns are fairly close knit and people watch after each other more often. However, it is possible for someone who doesn’t live in the area to come invade your town. Never can be too careful.
Our house was burglarized once. It makes one feel so violated. Now we have a monitored security system plus cameras. Great tips.
Pat my parents house was burglarized when I was a child. My room was the only room that they didn’t touch and they even stole my brother’s pillow case for all their loot. It was an eerie feeling as a child to be in the house for a few days after it happened. After that my parents purchased an alarm system and have had one every sense.
