What Items Should I Have in my Baby’s Diaper Bag?
Some of the items seem like they would be common sense; however, as a mom I made mistakes and sometimes forgot to make sure that the bag was restocked before leaving the house. Here is a list of items that you could find in my child’s diaper bag:
- diapers
- wipes
- diaper rash cream
- changing mat – great for protecting your back seat during an emergency diaper change or in public restrooms
- change of clothes – if your caught without a change of clothes you might have to buy your child new clothes while you are out and about, in fact, I actually had to do this with my first child
- plastic bags – this is a great way to recycle those grocery bags because you can wrap up soiled clothes or place a dirty diaper in it if there isn’t a trash can handy.
- gas drops
- nail clippers
- Tylenol
- blanket or nursing cover – a blanket is a must have if your nursing
- extra pacifiers
- bottle/water/formula if your child isn’t breastfed
- baby food/spoon for an older toddler
- burp clothes
- bib
- sippy cup for your older baby
This is a basic list of things that you may need while you are out and about with your baby. As you can see, this is a pretty lengthy list.
What item do you always make sure that you have in your baby’s diaper bag?

Some sort of non-perishable snack is also handy (even just a few digestive crackers) and a small toy. Along with your list, that's what you could find in my diaper bag. I have 3 children. My oldest is 25 and my youngest is 3!
I totally forgot about toy’s to entertain with. 🙂
My kids are kids are teens now, but I always carried those board books to entertain them!
Books are a great way to entertain your child while waiting in at the doctors office, ect.
This is a great list! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who recycles the grocery bags like that. My hubby always laughs at me when I grab a handful to throw in the diaper bag but boy do they come in handy! =)
I am glad that I am not the only one who recycles the plastic bags but you never know when your child is going to have a blow out. Blow outs are gross and usually include soiled clothes. The plastic bag keeps everything else in your diaper bag from getting icky.
Can they make one big enough to really hold everything you need? I’m not sure;) I tend to like the ones I find on Etsy, just because they are more stylish than the typical. They are not the most attractive things always, huh;)
I agree it feels as if you need to carry the kitchen sink with you every where you go when you have a baby.
Same here, I also used to bring along a plushie or a ball, or anything to keep the little one busy and entertained. 🙂
Thank you for sharing Rebel. 🙂
What a great list! We’ve been out of diapers for over a year now, so I can’t really say I miss having to pack all of that stuff. And this list can ebb and flow as your baby ages. I agree with the non-perishable snack (I STILL carry that!) as well as some kid-safe anti-bacterial wipe/spray.
I agree Gina. I mostly carry diapers and a change of clothes for my son now.
